UNI GETS $1.5 MILLION FUNDING BOOST FROM LEGISLATURE
Des Moines, Iowa – Under a measure sponsored by Rep. Bob Kressig of Cedar Falls, the University of Northern Iowa will receive an additional $1.5 million next year to keep higher education affordable for middle class families and create good-paying jobs.
“I’m pleased the House adopted our plan to give the University of Northern Iowa and our local economy another boost," said Rep. Kressig. “Even in these difficult times, I’m proud we are keeping our budget focused on job creation and a quality education for our kids.”
The measure, which was included in Senate File 2376, provides an additional $9 million to the state’s Regent University, including the University of Northern Iowa.
“After seeing tuition increase 90% in the first half of the decade, my top priority has been to keep tuition at UNI affordable for middle class families and this another positive step,” added Kressig. “Through the Institute for Decision Making, the Metal Casting Center, and the UNI Small Businesses Development Center, the education blueprint we approved today will also help us keep support for small businesses and entrepreneurs available for Iowans.”
The bill now returns to the Senate.
