KRESSIG TAPPED TO CHAIR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT BUDGET;
Des Moines, Iowa – House Speaker Pat Murphy of Dubuque has appointed State Representative Bob Kressig of Cedar Falls to chair the House Economic Development Appropriations Subcommittee.
“In these tough economic times, the state must focus our efforts on creating good-paying jobs and I trust Rep. Kressig with this important task,” said Murphy. “He listens well, works hard, and understands we must get our economy growing to help middle class families. He will be instrumental in helping us meet our priorities while keeping the budget balanced without raising taxes.”
Rep. Kressig begins his new duties immediately from Rep. Dave Jacoby of Coralville, who was elected as an Assistant Majority Leader in October. Kressig will also take a seat on the powerful House Appropriations Committee.
“I know these are difficult times for many families and the state budget, but we must continue our work supporting key industries like renewable energy, information solutions, and advanced manufacturing to ensure Iowa prospers as we recover from the national recession,” added Kressig. “In additional to balancing the state budget, one of my top priorities will be to capitalize on the opportunities created by the University of Northern Iowa.”
In addition to his new duties on appropriations, Kressig will continue to serve on Commerce, Environmental Protection, Local Government and Public Safety.
The 2010 Iowa Legislature convenes on Monday, January 11, 2010.
