House Gives a Boost to 2,000 Iowa Military Members
Des Moines, Iowa – Over 2,000 Iowans serving in the military will benefit from a bill approved by the Iowa House today that exempts federal military pay from state income taxes.
“With 15,000 Iowans called to active duty in the last decade, our military personnel have gone above and beyond the call of duty. Although they may be serving in Iowa, they play a vital role in preparing troops for service overseas,” said Kressig.
The measure approved this year expands on a bill approved last year which exempted military pay for other Iowans called to active duty. The bill approved this year, House File 2169, specifically expands the state income tax exemption to qualified members of the National Guard or Armed Services Reserve under Title 32.
The bill now goes to the Senate.
